Close-up Photography

Macro photography is extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects and living organisms like insects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size.

Butterfly

A butterfly collecting nectar from a flower on the banks of a lake.

In this image, the butterfly is the primary focus. In addition to making the butterfly look bigger than it actually is, the flowers and the leaves offer a rich contrast in addition to giving a picture as to what the butterfly is doing!

Lotus Bloom

A small lotus flower in the initial days of its bloom in the spring.

The blurry background of water and leaves aid the petals in projecting to the vibrance of the lotus flower. The deeper the blacks in the background, the better the contrast!

Purple Flower

The primary focus is this picture is on the stigma and stamen of the flower in such a way that the petals do not deviate the attention of the viewer of the subject.

The viewer would first take a glimpse of the flower and then the stigma and stamen of the flower. The leaves do a good part of adding the green colour with the black background.
